David Grice was scheduled to appear in Stafford General District Court on Wednesday morning, but instead opted to skip it, prompting a home visit by deputies to take in the wanted man.
At around noon on Dec. 27, deputies responded to Grice's Mount Vernon Avenue home, and while one person advised that no one by that name lived there, Grice ultimately came to the front door, where a strange scene played out when he attempted to slam the door in the deputies' faces.
In doing so, a spokesperson for the Stafford County Sheriff's Office said that one deputy got his arm pinned in the door frame, at which point Grice was ordered to open the door, though he said he "doesn't care" and braced himself up against the door to keep him from removing his arm.
The deputies got the last laugh.
Pushing up against the opposite side of the door, the pinned deputy was freed, and after a struggle in the doorway, Grice was apprehended and served on the original warrant that he was scheduled to appear in court to address on Wednesday.
He was then hit with three more charges, including assault on law enforcement, obstruction of justice with force, and obstruction of justice without force.
Grice is now being held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail without, where he won't have the option of trying to hide behind the front door of his cell.
